The course “Fitness training in Elite Football - Individual Development” is related to current success of the work by Jens Bangsbo at Atalanta B.C. in Serie A

Combining scientific knowledge and best-practice, the content will focus on topics such as individual analysis, individual training, player loading, and return to play as well as the use of data for individual development. There will also be plenty of opportunities to discuss other areas of interest during the day, or during breakfast, lunch or dinner, which is all included in the course fee.

During the course, which is developed in collaboration with coaches from some of the most prestigious clubs in the world such as Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool FC, Juventus FC, Internazionale FC and FC Barcelona, we will bridge theory and practice and offer concrete procedures, exercises and tools to develop each player in the team optimally.


The 3-day course is a unique opportunity to meet professionals that are faced by the same challenges as you. We will encourage you to discuss, share your knowledge, and grow your network to improve your level of knowledge, expertise and coaching skills.

The course targets fitness coaches working, or studying to work, with a football club on a daily basis, and we strive to include and embrace all levels of expertise within this context.

The course will run during the international break from the 28 of November at 14:00 to 30 of November at 16:00. It is therefore possible to fly in on the morning of the 28th and fly out in the evening of the 30th. Transfer from/to the airport is included in the course fee.

Taken together, we offer a top-quality 3-day course with all-inclusive service and no hidden expenses. Therefore, to attend the 3-day course, all you need to do is to get to the Alicante airport in time to attend the course starting 28th of November at 14:00.

Jens Bangsbo

Jens is a professor at the world-renowned institute of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen, and has published more than 350 original research papers and numerous books. He is considered a pioneer and world-leading expert within the area of applied physiology in soccer. He is Assistant Coach at Atalanta B.C. and has also been at Juventus FC, AEK Athens, Antalyaspor and the Danish national team. He holds a UEFA Pro license and he is a UEFA, AFC and FIFA instructor. He is the inventor of the “Yo-Yo” test – the most used test in the world of soccer – and his ability to translate scientific knowledge into practice is widely respected all over the world.

Casper Skovgaard

Casper holds a PhD from University of Copenhagen & Team Danmark, the Danish elite sports institute. He was Head of Strength and Conditioning for the Turkish Süperlig team Antalyaspor as part of the coaching staff of Leonardo. He is currently Head of Physical Performance at FC Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga, and he has also been Head of Performance at a number of Danish clubs, including other Superliga teams Lyngby Boldklub and Vejle Boldklub. The book, "Warm-up in Football: Optimize Performance and Avoid Injuries", was authored by Jens and Casper and released in 2021.

Day 1

The course starts with an introduction to fitness training in football and individual analysis. Then the coaches head to the football pitch for the first practical session - a 2x 30 min game. This is followed by a theoretical session on individual analysis from the game. Together with a great dinner, a summary and a reflection session takes place at the end of day 1.

Day 2

The second day starts with a theoretical session, where the coaches present their findings from day 1, then testing principles are presented and discussed. The coaches then go to the training ground for the second practical session - testing. After lunch, the participants have a data analysis theoretical session combined with a talk and discussion on monitoring in modern football. Next, fitness training in football focusing on intense training is discussed, and finally there will be a team building football game and a big dinner.

Day 3

During the final day, the coaches participate in a theoretical session on data from testing and a discussion on aims of training during the week. This is followed by the third practical session focusing on individual training in a team setting. Lunch is followed by the evaluation of training including training load measures and optimization of individual performance. Lastly, planning of team & individual training during the week takes place.

The lectures and practical training is going to take place in Elche. The Valencian city of Elche is a short drive from Alicante and makes a popular day-trip for holidaymakers on the Costa Blanca. Not just any old Spanish town, Elche is famous for palm trees, shoemaking and a very special church, and there’s much more to see and do.

During the course the lectures will be held in the Elche Coworking space, while the practical sessions will be held at “Ciutat Esportiva Juan Ángel Romero”.

Average Weather in November is usually clear and sunny. Daily high temperatures is between 18°C and 22°C, rarely falling below 15°C or exceeding 26°C.
